You can now craft ranged weapons.

In fact, in terms of equipping and hitting an animal, there is no difference between long and short. :)

If you put arrows in your bag, equip a bow, and hit an animal, you can inflict great damage. Each time you use it, one arrow will disappear from your bag. Even if you don't have arrows, you can do some damage if you have a bow equipped.
